iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Camera Upgrades

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will include a number of important camera upgrades.

As usual, Apple will put the highest-end camera upgrades in the "Pro" models.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max

Here's what we know about the specs:

• 12-megapixel Wide camera with Focus Pixels
• 12-megapixel Ultra Wide camera with ƒ/1.8 aperture and autofocus
• Front-facing camera with ƒ/1.9 aperture and autofocus

The ‌iPhone 14‌'s new 48-megapixel Wide camera will be exclusive to the Pro models. iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max, will have an upgraded front-facing camera with autofocus and a wider ƒ/1.9 aperture. The wider aperture allows more light to pass through the lens and reach the front camera's sensor on the ‌iPhone 14‌ models, resulting in enhanced image quality.

• 48-megapixel Wide camera with Focus Pixels and pixel binning
• 7-element Telephoto lens
• 8K video recording
• Front-facing camera with ƒ/1.9 aperture and autofocus

The new Wide sensor is a Sony unit, like the ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌. The device's sensor is a 1/1.3-inches in width, an over 20%  increase over the 1/1.65-inch sensor width of the Wide camera on the ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max. This means that the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ will create larger, higher-resolution images with finer details. The ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ models will support both 48-megapixel and 12-megapixel output, through a process known as pixel binning.

The iPhone 14 Pro models, with a 48MP camera system, will offer 8K video recording, creating a significant upgrade over the ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌'s.

Several online sources have confirmed that Apple will hold an event on Wednesday, September 7, at which the iPhone 14 will be unveiled.

This is a departure from Apple’s typical Tuesday iPhone events. This is likely due to Labor Day falling on that Monday.

It is still unknown whether IOS 16 will be ready to release at the September event. This week, Apple released the 6th beta of IOS 16 which included mostly bug fixes and minor maintenance improvements.

Apple’s general practices and products have been deteriorating now for many years.

But this time they’ve been caught red-handed intentionally slowing down older iPhone performance with their updates and without telling customers what they were doing. Apple claims it was doing this to protect the consumer from iPhones with weakening batteries that may fail altogether. Really Apple? That’s the best you could come up with?

Apple now has a huge PR problem on their hands. But as bad as the PR problem is and will become, it will likely be dwarfed by the legal trouble ahead for Apple. The intentional and secretive slowing down of iPhone performance can be seen as doing direct harm iPhone users. There are already several lawsuits in the works, and I imagine there will be several more to come.

Will Apple begin to learn the lesson here? I doubt it.

The camera is good. Add image stabilization to the telephoto camera on the iPhone 8 and I’m happy.

Apple, you’ve lost your way. And soon, you will lose your base. Be very careful how you navigate these waters in the next few years lest you begin to lose major market share. Pay attention!
